Samsung and Qualcomm joined forces with several other technology entities to form the A4WP (Alliance For Wireless Power), a group that seeks to develop a “new wireless power transfer technology that provides spatial freedom for charging of electrical devices in cars, on tabletops, and for multiple devices simultaneously.” The A4WPenvisions creating a single specification, as well as certification program, that address the ability to simultaneously charge devices ranging from Bluetooth headsets and other low-power
products to “today’s most sophisticated tablets,” according to its initial press release The alliance is seeking participation from handheld device vendors, cellular operators, and semi-conductor companies among others.
